Aim/vision
The goal of the Section is to stimulate research and education in the field of Medicinal Chemistry, i.e. stimulation of the rational development of novel drugs or other biologically active entities. To reach this goal Medicinal Chemists are dealing with (computational) design, organic synthesis, isolation, characterization and pharmacological/toxicological evaluation. Because of its highly multidisciplinary character, next to medicinal chemists also pharmacologists, molecular biologists, analytic and organic chemists, computer experts, physicians and toxicologists are member of the section of Medicinal Chemistry.

Activities
Every year the Section Medicinal Chemistry organizes one or two scientific meetings in collaboration with affiliated societies in the Netherlands and Belgium. Furthermore, the Section organizes the 'Vrije Mededelingendag' every December, at which young members can present their research. Once in every two years, an award is presented to the author of the best Dutch Ph.D. thesis in the field of Medicinal Chemistry.

Affiliations
The Section Medicinal Chemistry is connected to FIGON and the European Federation for Medicinal Chemistry (EFMC).
