Aim / vision
The Dutch Pharmacological Society (DPS/NVF) aims to promote and stimulate
pharmacological science and profession. The Society therefore fosters
research and education in the mode of action of drugs both in the biological
context and under pathophysiological conditions. The Society cooperates
with other societies in the medical science and stimulates a multidisciplinary
approach in drug development. In order to achieve this the NVF is affiliated
to platforms, federations and working parties on medical science / drug
development at a national level and to pharmacological societies at an
international level.
Activities
The Annual Congress of the Society is held once a year and comprises a
two-day meeting with junior scientist presentations, special topic symposia,
the "Ariëns Award Lecture" presented by a distinguished
pharmacologist.
At the Annual Meeting (and in a three year cycle) a lecture is presented
by the award winner of the Organon Prize (for the best senior investigator),
the Glaxo Prize (for the best Ph.D thesis), and the "Afstudeerprijs"
(best junior investigator). The next Annual Congress of the Society will
be organised during two days prior to the FIGON "Geneesmiddelendagen"
in October 2008. During this event the Society will also contribute to
congresses and symposia organised by affiliated societies (see below).
Members of the Society can qualify as "pharmacologist" after
having met the criteria as put forward in the "Reglement Farmacologenopleiding".
Affiliations
The NVF is a member of FIGON (Netherlands Federation for Innovative Drug
Research).
The NVF is a member of the International Union of Pharmacology (IUPHAR)
and the Federation of European Pharmacological Societies (EPHAR).
Travel grants
Through the Dutch Foundation for Pharmacological Sciences young scientists
in Pharmacology and related areas can apply for travel grants.
