The Society stimulates those research areas, that are of special relevance for drug discovery and development. It especially focuses on optimizing the interplay between the different research disciplines involved in drug innovation. The NVFW therefore advocates an integral approach of drug innovation in all its aspects, including cell biology/pathophysiological concepts, drug design, biosynthesis and isolation of active substances, testing of drugs for efficacy and safety, (bio)analysis, drug metabolism and kinetics, development and scale-up of dosage forms, clinical evaluation and registration of new drugs, and information on medicines including their use and importance for society. Activities The NVFW consists of four sections: • Section for Biopharmacy and Pharmaceutical (Bio)Technology • Section Biogenic Medicines • Section Pharmaceutical Statistics and Data Management • Section Advanced drug delivery/drug targeting Each section has its own meetings, but also assembles at the Annual NVFW Fall Meeting during the FIGON Dutch Medicines Days. The NVFW also actively participates in the organization of the biannual PharmSciFair in Nice. The NVFW organizes the competition for the best thesis in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences that is awarded at the NVFW Fall Meeting during the FIGON Dutch Medicines Days. Special Symposia are organized on 'hot topics'. The NVFW contributes to Conceptuur and distributes the EUFEPS-Newsletter. Affiliations The NVFW is a member of FIGON and European Federation of Pharmaceutical Sciences (EUFEPS).
